Communication & Language

We provide an environment for children to express themselves to speak and listen in a range of situations which allows them to develop their language and communication skills. Purple Willows approach in the development of young children involves giving them the opportunity to experience a productive language environment to build their confidence and skills in expressing themselves positively while speaking and listening in a range of situations.

We take into consideration each child's needs, interest and their stage of development so that we can plan a challenging and enjoyable experience accurately for their learning and development. Where a child may have a particular educational need or disability which requires specialist support, we will assist the child parents and carers to ensure they have access to the relevant or appropriate services.

For children whose home language is not English, Purple Willows will take reasonable steps to provide opportunities for the child to develop and use their home language in play and learning, supporting their language development at home. We also ensure that children have sufficient opportunities to learn and reach a good standard in the English language ensuring they are ready to benefit from the opportunities available to them when they begin Year 1.

As part of our protocols, we assess every child skills in English. If a child does not have a firm grasp of English language, we will explore the child’s abilities in their home language with parents and carers, to establish whether there is cause for concern about language delay.
