Personal, Social & Emotional Development

Personal, Social & Emotional Development (PSED) is one of the prime areas within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) focusing on self-confidence and self-awareness, managing feelings and behavior and making relationships. PSED underpin all other aspects of the children's learning and development, and at Purple Willows we are committed to ensuring that children are supported to shape their social skills to develop respect and an understanding of their different feelings.

We encourage children to talk about their ideas and choose the resources they need for their chosen activities. They are guided to show sensitivity to others' needs and feelings and form positive relationships with adults and other children. The children work as part of a group to understand and follow our rules. We allow them to adjust their behavior to different situations and make changes of routine in their stride.

We work with the children and demonstrate the benefits of teamwork and cooperation through sharing ideas and resources, so they have access to experiences and activities that interest them.

Our physical environment encourages the children to be independent and make use of resources of their choice. They discuss their own decision of learning materials and toys to be used during the day, where they would like to play and who to play with allowing them to reinforce the value of cooperation and consideration for others.
