Physical Development

At Purple Willows, we aim for at least three hours of physical activity on the day for children in our setting.
We have a wide range of skills and physical activities to enable children to show good control and coordination in large and small movements.

Our enabling environment and philosophy encourage the children to engage in and talk about the things they enjoy doing such as locomotor skills involving galloping, running, cycling, hopping and skipping.  We provide activities that support "fine motor" development such as threading beads, painting and exploring color and building with blocks. We offer all children the same opportunity to develop object-control skills which include catching, rolling and throwing.

We understand that children often love to be active; however, as they develop to be independent, we ensure they understand the importance of good health which includes physical exercise and a healthy diet. We make use of displays to show the range of foods to be eaten and to identify how different foods help growth and development. We also encourage children to feel proud of achievements in health and self-care as well as managing their basic hygiene and personal needs successfully.
